Three itineraries

Where to begin

Each path groups works around a single concern and suggests an order for reading them.

Path 01

Urban solitude in modern prose

Novels that follow single figures through the anonymous streets of contemporary cities, where loneliness becomes a way of seeing. Start with the shortest title to set the tone, then move toward longer, more layered narratives.

Path 02

European postwar memory

Fiction and documentary-inspired novels that revisit the decades after the war, asking how families, borders, and languages carried its weight. The path moves from intimate household stories toward broader historical frames.

Path 03

Translated novellas

Short translated works from several languages, chosen for their compression and formal precision. Each title is a self-contained entry point, and the path closes with a note on the translation choices that shape each text.

Our method

Why each title is on the list

Every selection begins with a thematic question rather than a sales category. We read each title against the path it serves and note where a newcomer should begin, explaining the thread that connects it to the others.

We do not select titles for commercial visibility or bestseller status, and we do not treat a list as a ranking. Where a claim about a book or its author is made, it is checked against the published text or a verifiable source, and our reasoning is stated so that readers can follow it and disagree.
